Giant Yellow Crayon Dog
Picture
Artist Herb Williams is so inspired by crayons that he uses the colorful implements to produce cutting-edge works of art.
This giant pooch is made from hundreds of yellow crayons.
The idea of creating sculptures made from the childhood tools came to him in a dream five years ago.
"I had the sketchbook by the bed and immediately wrote it down and haven't stopped," Williams says.

Horse Masterpieces!
Picture
Using driftwood captured from the sea, an artist created three horse sculptures so compelling they appear to be ready to burst into a gallop across the beach.
Heather Jansch, of Olchard, England, spent three years designing and producing the magnificent pieces. The free-standing figures may look fragile, but they weigh three-quarters of a ton and sell for nearly $100,000 each.

World's Oldest Stash!
Picture
Archaeologists discovered nearly two pounds of still-green marijuana buried in a 2,700-year-old grave - proof the ancients were getting stoned centuries before modern-day idiots!
Ethan Russo, a visiting professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Botany, authored a study on the cannabis, which was excavated from a grave at the Yanghai Tombs in the Gobi Desert near Turpan, China.
Researchers believe the remains are those of a blue-eyed Caucasian man who died around age 45. The body was surrounded by a variety of valuable objects, including a make-up bag, bridles, pots, archery equipment, a harp and a wooden bowl, which contained the marijuana.
Russo says the rarity of these offerings indicates the individual was a medicine man from the Gushi people, an extinct tribe who spoke a language similar to Celtic.
The size of the seeds and the color of the leaves reveal that the grass was loaded with THC - the psychoactive chemical in marijuana that produces the high.
But the experts haven't figured out exactly how the ancients absorbed the pot, since no pipes or other smoking devices were found in or around the tomb.
One thing is for sure, friends and family made sure the blue-eyed man had plenty of stash for his journey to the next world.
"As with other grave goods, it was traditional to place items needed for the afterlife in the tomb with the departed," Russo explained.

Brothers Reunited!
Two brothers separated at birth found each other after 80 years - living only six blocks apart!
Jacob "Jack" Shore, an 82-year-old patent attorney, and Lewis Manilow, an 81-year-old lawyer and real estate developer, spent their lives without knowing the other existed.
"It's the surprise of my life," says Manilow. "At my age, to find I have a brother and he lives six blocks away."
Manilow didn't even know he'd been adopted until 1955. He traced court papers back to his biological parents, Sam and Gussie Inger, poor Eastern European immigrants. And he discovered that he wasn't their only child.
He hired genealogist Philip Applebaum, who tracked down Manilow's older brother, Jack Shore. It turned out they were neighbors in Chicago.
They'd even shaken hands before, but had no idea of the ties between them until Applebaum arranged an introduction.
Both were lawyers. Both were left handed, but batted right. And both had big families of their own, who recently held their first reunion.
"I've always wanted a brother," explains Shore. "But I don't know what having a brother is!"

Eyes Being Grown In A Lab
Picture

An accidental discovery has opened the door for scientists to create human eyes that could then be transplanted into blind patients.
Researchers at the University of Warwick in England were studying frogs when they found that injecting a certain cell-surface protein into tadpoles stimulates the development of tissues that eventually become eyes.
Further experimentation led Dr. Elizabeth Jones and her colleagues to conclude that the protein was the essential first step in coaxing stem cells into transforming themselves into eye tissue, a key compenent in the creation of a complete "eye in a dish."
"Our study provides a step closer to being able to manipulate eye development," Jones says.

Crazy Ass Voodoo Plant!
Picture
A mysterious plant, used by Haitian voodoo priests and priestesses to free dead souls from evil spirits and put curses on the living, has been found to be a potent source of biofuel.
Voodoo practitioners also claim jatropha can cure constipation and acne, but scientists say it can produce high-grade diesel fuel to run everything from cars to massive electricity generators.
The plant grows abundantly all over Haiti, and experts predict it will boost the poverty stricken Caribbean island out of the economic doldrums by providing much-needed low-cost fuel.
In a related development, researchers from Montana State University have discovered that a tree fungus growing in the South American rainforest can also help free us from dependence on fossil fuels by producing biodiesel more efficiently than plants alone.
Normally, plants have to be converted into cellulose before they can be turned into diesel fuel, but the fungus - called Gliocladium roseum - eliminates this preliminary step, resulting in lower costs and increased production.

Dinosaur Spy Bot
Picture
More than 115 million years ago, the skies were ruled by a ferocious flying dinosaur called a pterosaur. Now, scientists are creating a mechanical version of the vicious beast to function as a spy plane in the war against terrorism.
Engineers at the University of Florida and Texas Tech University have teamed up to build a robotic version of the dinosaur that can not only fly, but also walk on land and swim in the sea.
They're replicating the prehistoric creature all the way down to its skin, muscles, tendons, skeleton, nerves and blood vessels.
The resulting spy plane will be able to alter its wing shape to squeeze through small spaces, dive between buildings, zoom under overpasses and land on apartment balconies.

Moon Dust!!!!
Picture
NASA is planning to use moon dust to create the most powerful telescope ever built.
The "eye in the sky" would be strong enough to analyze the atmospheres of distant planets for signs of intelligent life.
Astronomers have been dreaming about putting a telescope on the moon since the beginning of the space age. Like the orbiting Hubble telescope, it wouldn't be limited by Earth's atmosphere, which hampers the range and precision of the images captured by the device's lens.
But getting the materials required to construct such a telescope from Earth to the moon would be prohibitively expensive. NASA astrophysicist Dr. Peter Chen believes it's possible to surmount that obstacle by using the dust that covers the surface of the moon as the main component of the telescope.
Using simulated moon dust, he's built a small version of the device in his lab at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. The concept is simple: combine lunar dust with a small amount of epoxy to create a super-strong curved surface, which is then coated with aluminum to make it reflective and - presto - you have a telescope.
It will be possible to build a telescope25 times bigger than the Hubble employing this technique and do it at minimal cost Chen insists.
