Raspberries Help Fight Cancer
Picture
Chemicals found in black raspberries inhibit the genes that cause many types of cancer, new research has found.
Scientists injected laboratory animals with cancer-causing agents and noted that 2,200 genes were affected in just one week. But 460 of those genes were returned to normal function in animals that were given a freeze-dried black raspberry powder as part of their diets.
Fifty-three of the genes play a key role in early cancer development, and by switching them off, researchers believe many malignancies could be prevented. Black raspberries contain a combination of vitamins, minerals, phenols and phytosterols, all of which have shown cancer fighting ability in other trials. Freeze-drying the berries concentrates these life-saving ingredients and increases their potency.

Blitz's Story
When Blitz first came to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary 10 years ago, he didn't trust people as far as he could urinate! Many shy dogs who come to the shelter come out of their shells sooner or later, but Blitz was determined.
Weeks became months, and months became years, and still he steadfastly kept his distance. But a couple months ago, something changed - he started creeping closer and closer to humans, until he finally approached for a few pats!
It was all downhill from there. Now he's a regular love bug, to the delight of caregivers who, for years, have wanted nothing more than to be his pal.

Pope Alexander VI's Killer Daughter
Picture
Lucrezia Borgia, born in 1480, was the third child of Pope Alexander VI and his mistress Vanozza Catanel. In those days, the leader of the Catholic Church was allowed a family.
However, legend has it that the Borgia clan was seething with sexual deviancy, including incestuous relationships between the young girl and both her father and her brother.
As a teen, she wed a Spanish nobleman, but the marriage was annulled despite her giving birth to a child. Then her brother Cesare strangled her second husband, and by the age 22, she was married for the third and last time to the Duke of Ferrara.
There were also claims that once the sexually adventurous Lucrezia tired of her many lovers, she poisoned them with a potion she kept in a hollow ring.
She died in 1519 at 39 from complications in childbirth, her name forever synonymous with murder and debauchery.

Mothman Scares The Hell Out Of People
Picture
The mysterious Mothman who terrorized West Virginia has new partners in crime ready to launch a reign of terror across the planet(LOL), say paranormal researchers investigating encounters with a similar flying humanoid halfway around the world.
The Mothman, a tall, shadowy human-shaped figure with red glowing eyes and wide, stiff wings, first appeared in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, in the late 1960s. Witnesses reported it appearing in back yards and flying behind speeding cars on lonely rural highways.
A decade later, a similar flying humanoid was spotted in the English county of Cornwall.
Witnesses dubbed it the "Owlman."
Now, nearly identical reports are coming out of northern Italy's Lake Garda region, where a winged humanoid is terrifying motorists, boaters and swimmers.
Locals call the flying, swimming creature "uomo falena" - Italian for "mothman."
The dark brown apparition is more than 6 feet tall, with bat-like wings and a head covered with what looks like a crest of feathers.
Witnesses say it flies silently, with its wings moving unusually slowly and regularly, almost as if powered by clockwork.
And, unlike the Point Pleasant Mothman, this being seems equally at home underwater as in midair.
"I was spending a summer at a villa on Lake Garda, and used to enjoy the view of the sunset on the lake," recalls Dr. Stephanie Lipscomb, an Italian language professor from Toronto.
"One night, I was standing on the shore when I was surprised by something flying overhead."
"It was about 30 feet in the air and measured between 6 and 7 feet from head to toe.
"It looked almost like a man-sized kite or a man on a hang-glider, but I could see its wings slowly moving up and down."
"Its head was very round, and it had two circular eyes that reflected the light like cats' eyes."
"As  I watched, it soared around 100 feet offshore, then gave out a loud buzzing rattle and dove beneath the water."
"Minutes later, it rose again on the far side of the lake and flew away over the mountains."
Fisherman Pietro Musso describes being startled twice by a human-sized figure passing under his boat.
"If it was the ocean, I would say it is a manta ray and leave it at that, but this is fresh water," Musso explains. "And there is no manta in the world's oceans who can leap into the air, float in place then fly away like a helicopter."
"I cannot explain it, but I know what I've seen."

French President Nicolas Sarkozy's Voodoo Doll Issue
Picture
A French court has rejected President Nicolas Sarkozy's attempt to yank voodoo dolls bearing the European leader's likeness.
But the court did admit that sticking pins in the mini-president "constitutes an offense to the dignity of Mr. Sarkozy," so from now on, the magic merchandise must carry a warning label informing buyers that the president finds them personally offensive.

A Little Piece Of Paradise
The Bible isn't the only record of the "Garden of Eden".
The word "paradise" comes from traditional Iranian stories of the first man, who lived in a luxurious walled garden called "Paira-daeza," where no one ever aged or grew sick.
The ancient Greek poet Hesiod described a Golden Age, when the fruitful earth spontaneously bore people abundant fruit," before human corruption drove us into suffering and scarcity.
Indian mythology describes the Krita Yuga, or Perfect Age, when humans lived in happiness and peace, under a climate so mild they had no need of houses or clothes. And Chinese sage Chuangziwrote in the 4th century B.C. of the Age of Perfect Virtue, when people had everything they wanted and never felt greed, pride or sorrow.
